Screening Studies

Virtual Colonscopy

Virtual Colonoscopy evaluates your colon for polyps and early cancer. This screening study is recommended for people over 50 years of age, or those who have a family history of colorectal cancer. It is also appropriate for those who do not wish to, or are unable to undergo colonoscopy. Anyone who is already experiencing colon symptoms is not a candidate for this exam, and should talk to their physician about immediate care options. The study is performed using a thin section CT scan after air has been instilled into the colon via a thin catheter inserted in the rectum. The CT is first performed in the supine position and then repeated prone.

Patient Preparation:

You will receive preparation instructions for cleansing your colon before the test. You may have clear liquids the day of the study and you may take your medications. The study will only be performed with a written prescription from your doctor.
